'Suction sail' for shipping could assist megayachts

The MV Atlantic Orchard is the latest ship to be fitted with an eSail installation from Barcelona-based Bound4blue. This rig should save at least 10% in fuel costs.

The French shipping company Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has become the latest maritime operator to install a relatively new type of wind assisted propulsion system (WAPS) from the Barcelona-based OEM Bound4blue. The 180m fruit juice tanker Atlantic Orchard has been fitted with four eSails and is now undergoing assessment trials.
